The Ondo State Police Command has arrested seven individuals and recovered seven single-barrel guns following a violent clash over a disputed piece of land in the Gbalegi area, situated between Akure and Idanre.
CSP Funmi Odunlami, the State Police Public Relations Officer, revealed this in a statement, noting that the command acted on a distress call reporting an attack by armed thugs on residents of the contentious area.
“Upon receiving the information, our officers swiftly moved to the scene and apprehended seven individuals. They were found in possession of charms, seven single-barrel guns, live ammunition, and expended cartridges. During a thorough search of the surrounding bushes, we also discovered four corpses with bullet wounds,” said CSP Odunlami.
Reacting to the incident, Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, urged communities entangled in land or boundary disputes to seek legal recourse instead of resorting to violence.
The police command reiterated its resolve to uphold law and order, calling on residents to report suspicious activities in their localities.
