By Bukola Olamona

The Ondo State Police Command has unveiled a series of events to commemorate the inaugural National Police Day, designed to strengthen community relations and enhance public safety.

According to a statement issued to Weekend Hope, the celebrations will begin on Thursday, April 3, 2025, with a sanitation and cleanup exercise at the Arakale Market in Akure, one of the state’s busiest commercial hubs.

This initiative aims to promote environmental hygiene and foster a sense of civic responsibility among residents.

In addition to the cleanup, a free medical check-up will be provided to residents within the Akure metropolis, aimed at improving public health and well-being.

The following day, Friday, April 4, 2025, will see the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi, and his officers host a crucial stakeholders’ meeting at the OSDPC Hall in Ijapo.

This gathering will bring together traditional rulers, community leaders, youth representatives, and other relevant bodies to discuss strategies for enhancing security and strengthening partnerships between the police and the community.

On Saturday, April 5, 2025, a walkathon will take place to promote both physical and mental fitness.

The event will see police personnel and members of the public walk together in a united effort to encourage healthier lifestyles and community cohesion.

National Police Day is a new initiative aimed at acknowledging the sacrifices and contributions of law enforcement officers while fostering closer ties between the police and the communities they serve.
