Ondo Police debunk reports of mass killings in four communities

By Bukola Olamona
The Ondo State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that four communities in the state were attacked, resulting in multiple deaths.
Describing the reports as misleading, the command urged the public to disregard such claims, insisting that no confirmation was ever given regarding the killing of 20 farmers, as circulated in some media outlets.
A statement issued by the command clarified that the reports were not only inaccurate but also capable of inciting unnecessary panic among residents.
“For the record, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ala received information regarding an attack at Sunday Camp, a settlement along the Ondo-Edo boundary, on March 8, 2025. However, at no time did the command confirm the killing of 20 farmers, as falsely reported,” the statement read.
While acknowledging that an attack occurred at Sunday Camp, the command emphasised that security operatives have since been actively responding to the situation.
To further curb criminal activities in the state, Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, has ordered intensified covert operations to flush out criminal elements.
The command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information.
It further called on journalists and media organisations to verify reports from official sources before publication, warning that misleading information could heighten tension and instil fear among the populace.
