The Ondo State Police Command has said it has arrested a man identified as Bolaji Oluwasetire over an alleged indecent assault of a six-year old girl (Name withheld) at Osoro area of Ore, in Odigbo Local Government area of the state,
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade the , the incident occurred on October 1, 2025, at around 9:45 p.m., when the suspect was caught in the act of forcing the minor to rub his genitals.
The statement reads in part “The father of the victim, Kolawole Joseph, of NNPC Depot area, Ore, reported the matter to the police, prompting detectives from the Gender Desk Office at the Ore Divisional Headquarters to immediately swing into action.
“Acting swiftly on the report, detectives were dispatched to the scene, where the suspect was arrested and taken into custody for interrogation,” the statement read.
“However, while in police custody, the suspect reportedly began vomiting a greenish substance and later confessed to ingesting a herbicide in an apparent suicide attempt to evade justice.
“He was subsequently rushed to the General Hospital, Ore, where he is currently receiving medical treatment under close monitoring.
The Command assured the public that the victim is safe and that appropriate support services have been provided to her and her family. It further reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the suspect faces the full wrath of the law upon recovery.
Reaffirming the Command’s zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, vowed that no offender will escape justice under his watch.
He commended the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, whose proactive and people-centered policing strategy continues to strengthen the Force’s resolve to protect children and vulnerable persons across Nigeria.
The Command also urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspected case of abuse, warning that Ondo State will never be a safe haven for sexual predators.
“Perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence will be hunted down, arrested, and decisively prosecuted. No hiding place for offenders,” the statement concluded.
