Police officers from the Yaba Divisional Police Station in Ondo town on Wednesday raided a residence reportedly used by commercial sex workers.

The operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the station, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Victor Olowolagba, who was accompanied by other officers from the division.

Speaking shortly after the operation, the DPO said the rationale behind the raid was to prevent a breakdown of law and order in the community.

He explained that the police acted on a tip-off from members of the public, who reported that the building, allegedly used by commercial sex workers, might also be serving as a hideout for suspected fraudsters and other criminals.

The police boss revealed that they had earlier received credible information about the six-room apartment located on Iluyemi Street, in the heart of the community, being used by suspected fraudsters.

During the operation, two middle-aged men, whose identities are yet to be confirmed, were apprehended at the scene.

Similarly, several girls and women suspected to be commercial sex workers were arrested and interrogated.

Various items suspected to be charms of different kinds were also discovered in the building.

“We received credible information that the building might be used by fraudsters and other criminals,” the DPO said. “The owner of the building has been invited for questioning to assist with our investigation.”

Describing the building as not only a hub for commercial sex workers but also a potential hideout for criminals, the DPO appealed to the general public to continue providing useful information that could assist the police in carrying out their duties effectively.
