Ondo Police train officers on intelligence gathering, crime prevention

In a bid to tackle rising security challenges, the Ondo State Police Command has intensified efforts to enhance crime detection through intelligence-driven policing.
As part of the initiative, the Command recently concluded a two-day intensive training on crime mapping and intelligence gathering, aimed at equipping officers with modern techniques for proactive policing.
The training, which brought together officers from various divisions, focused on practical strategies for identifying crime patterns, gathering intelligence, and deploying data-driven approaches to security threats.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi Olutokunbo, said the era of reactive policing was over, stressing the need for officers to leverage intelligence and technology in combating criminal activities.
“Crime prevention is no longer about waiting for incidents to happen. Officers must be strategic, proactive, and fully equipped with intelligence tools to stay ahead of criminals,” he stated.
He assured that the Command would sustain regular capacity-building programmes to keep officers up to date with evolving security trends.
The initiative, he added, is part of broader efforts to improve policing efficiency and enhance public safety across the state.
