Ondo schools to resume Monday

Primary and secondary schools in Ondo State are set to resume on Monday, January 13, 2024, for the second term of the 2024/2025 academic session.
The schools had closed for the holidays on December 23, 2024, marking the end of the first term and allowing students to celebrate Christmas and New Year festivities.
A circular dated June 21 and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, Mrs. Folashade Adegoke, had previously announced that schools reopened for the first term on Monday, September 16, 2024.
The second term will begin on January 13 and conclude on Friday, April 11, 2025.
Mrs. Adegoke reiterated that “all public and private schools should adhere strictly to this calendar.” She also reminded schools to observe public holidays and instructed teachers to return a week before the resumption date to ensure proper preparations.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Mrs. Adegoke reaffirmed that academic activities would resume for the second term on Monday, January 13, 2025, across all public and private schools in Ondo State.
She welcomed both students and teachers back from the holiday break, urging them to prepare for the work ahead as the state government remains committed to providing the best educational experience for students.
Mrs. Adegoke also urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards have the necessary educational materials as they return for the new term.
In the meantime, many schools have already started preparing for the new term. Teachers and support staff were seen cleaning and organising school premises during visits to various public and private schools.
When The Hope spoke with students, reactions were mixed regarding their return to school.
“I cannot wait to get back to school. I have missed my friends and the school activities,” said Feyisara Abidemi.
Tunde Ogunsakin and Bimbo Kolawole also expressed enthusiasm, noting that the Christmas and New Year holidays had provided sufficient time for rest and celebration.
However, not all students shared the same excitement. Kingsley James and Rose Gbolahan admitted they were not eager to return to school just yet.
