Succour will soon come the way of people of the Southern Senatorial District of Ondo State, as the Federal Government is set to restore electricity to the area to finally end the region’s 12 years of blackout.

The Executive Director, Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Mr. Ife Oyedele made this known, while briefing newsmen in Akure on the Federal Government’s efforts at ensuring that electricity was restored to the affected communities.

Oyedele who disclosed that the project will be inaugurated by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo in few weeks time, hinted that plans had been concluded to restore power to the area by connecting them to the national grid.

He said the Vice President, during his last electioneering campaign to the region, did assure them, that the blackout which had crippled socio-economic activities in the area would become a thing of the past.

He reiterated that the Buhari-led administration will never make a promise and not fulfil it, saying the restoration of power to the region is not for political reasons, but purely for developmental purposes.

The NDPHC Executive Director mentioned communities where projects have been completed in the region to include Ajagba, Igbokoda, Okitipupa and Igodan-Lisa, while rehabilitation of Ore- Okitipupa 33KV line had equally been completed.

Oyedele further explained that work is on-going on the rehabilitation of Okiipupa to Ilutitun 11KV through Ikoya, rehabilitation of Igbotako to Ilutitun  33kv line through Iju-Odo and the rehabilitation of Ore to Irele 33kv line.

He assured that with the completed projects, the over 1,000 communities in the six local government areas of the district that had been without power supply over an alleged indebtedness of the electricity consumers would heave a sigh of relief, as they would begin to enjoy uninterrupted power supply.

While urging the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to provide metres to consumers and ensure transmission for the benefit of the people, Oyedele stated that NDPHC’s major task is to ensure that electricity is restored to any part of the country that had been off the grid.
