In a bid to boost economic activities and improve the welfare of his constituents, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, has commissioned a newly constructed market in Ondo East Constituency.
The market project, located in Sasere, was initiated to empower local traders and promote grassroots development, a clear reflection of the Speaker’s commitment to community upliftment.
While commissioning the 30-lock-up ultra-modern market on Saturday, Oladiji said the gesture was his way of giving back to the people who elected him.
“For so many years, they didn’t have any modern market, so I decided to create something that would stand as a legacy for my people,” he stated.
He urged market men and women to maintain the facility, calling on residents to patronise it. “This is their property. They should maintain it properly so they can use it for many years to come.”
Appreciating the people for their unwavering support, he assured them of more developmental projects under the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Chairman of Ondo East Local Government, Mr Busayo Olamigoke, congratulated the traders, noting that they would no longer have to sell their wares under harsh weather conditions.
He lauded the Speaker for prioritising the needs of the people, saying the constituents indeed voted wisely.
The Oloja of Sasere, His Royal Highness, Oba Adegoke Adesanoye, expressed gratitude to the Speaker for fulfilling his promise.
“You have made us proud. We appreciate your passion for grassroots development. This market has transformed the outlook of our community,” he said.
The Iyalaje of Sasere, Mrs Florence Adegoroye, hailed Oladiji for delivering on his promise. “He is truly a man of his word. We used to display our goods under the sun, but now this will make our lives easier and improve our economic status.”
Olori Lydia Adesanoye also thanked the Speaker, noting that the people had long yearned for such a facility. “I’m glad God used him for us. We’ve had several representatives, but none thought to do this. Now, we no longer have to go to Owena— we have our own market.”
She advised the community to remain united and ensure the market is well maintained.
A trader, Mrs Yemisi Akintunde, said: “Rt. Hon. Oladiji has done it again. He knows what his people need, and he always delivers. I used to travel to Owena to sell, but now I can trade comfortably within my community.”
Another resident, Mr Tunde Akinola, described the Speaker’s gesture as highly commendable, saying Oladiji had never abandoned his constituents since his election.
