The General Manager of Ondo State Sports Council (OSSC), Mr Wande Fabuluje, has said the council needed to upgrade its sports facilities for a good outing in the upcoming National Sports Festival.

Fabuluje disclosed this while speaking with newsmen on Thursday in Akure.

The National Sports Festival will begin from Dec. 10 to Dec. 16 in Abuja.

At the 2012 edition of the festival, tagged “Eko 2012” the state claimed the sixth position on the medals table.

He noted that some of the state sports facilities were currently in a dilapidated state and needed urgent upgrade so that they could surpass the previous outings results.

The general manager revealed that a proposal had already been sent to the state government and some corporate partners on the state of facilities for some sports.

Fabuluje, however, applauded Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for his support and upgrading of the table tennis facilities in the Sports Council.

“I want to appreciate the governor of the state  and  commissioner for youth development and sport for  standing by us at the recently concluded zonal elimination in Ibadan.

“Six sports were showcased: Football, Handball, Basketball, Volleyball, Abula, and Hockey, in which we qualified for three out of six games and we will represent the South-West in the main event.

“I want to appreciate the athletes, they performed excellently well by showcasing their skills and they came first in all the three games and it’s kudos to the state.

“We also have wonderful talents in individual sports, I am sure we are going to surpass our achievement in the previous festivals,” he said.
