Ondo stands still for Akeredolu

Ondo State on Wednesday stood still when the body of the late Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu was brought to the state for burial.

The State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa who received the body of the late governor on behalf of the state at the Governor’s office in Akure said the impactful programmes initiated by late Akeredolu to improve the lives of workers stand as a testament to his unwavering commitment to workers’ well-being.

He said the impactful interventions spearheaded by late Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, utilizing the authority of the government, would forever be etched in the memory of the people of the state

As early as 8am, students of various government schools including St. Louis Girls Grammar Schools, Oyemekun Grammar School, CAC Grammar School and many others with the Nigeria Flag in their hands gathered at different strategic venues within the Akure Metropolis as a sign of respect to welcome the body of the late Governor into the State.

Likewise, it was a solemn reflection as the State civil servants trouped out from various ministries, top government functionaries to join the Governor for the Lying-in-State at the Governor’s Office.

At the special court session organised by the Ondo State Judiciary to honour the late governor, Aiyedatiwa emphasized Akeredolu’s enduring legacy, which transcends mortality through his extraordinary deeds and contributions to the society.

“I reflect on Governor Akeredolu’s passion for justice, rule of law, and the legal profession, I’ve many times expressed admiration for his unwavering commitment and devotion to these principles. At a personal level, I am always elated with awe, each time I observe my late boss discuss the issue of access to justice, rule of law and the general practice of the profession he so loved.”

Earlier in his welcome address, Chief Judge of Ondo State,  Justice A. Olusegun Odusola, paid a heartfelt tribute to the distinguished legal luminary and revered leader.

Describing  Akeredolu as an exemplar of courage, integrity, and principled leadership, Justice Odusola commended his unwavering commitment to justice, rule of law, and societal welfare.

He praised  Akeredolu’s efforts in reforming the legal profession and enhancing access to justice during his tenure as President of the Nigerian Bar Association.

A lying-in-state was also organised at the Akure township stadium which saw eminent Nigerians paying their last respect to the late governor.

In his remarks, Governor Aiyedatiwa while reflecting on the significance of Akeredolu’s legacy, said “Indeed, there can be no doubt that what we are celebrating today is the life of a true patriot that was well spent. Though solemn but resounding, we are here in deference to a life of character, a life of conscience and true service.”

Meanwhile, at the ancient Owo town, the family of the late governor also observed the traditional Ajabue dance .

The turnout was massive and unprecedented as both young and old topnotch politicians, professionals  the low and the high in the society,  joined the people of Owo to give last respect to the deceased.
