Students of tertiary institutions in Ondo State have commended Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for the disbursement of funds for bursary and scholarship for indigenous students of the State.
Akeredolu, few days ago, approved a sum of N200 million naira for scholarship for all the indigenous students of Ondo State in tertiary institutions and also increased scholarship fund for Law students to hundred thousand naira.
Speaking with The Hope, the President, Law Students’ Association, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA) Chapter, Amos Olumide Adelaju said the increment was a good move from the ends of Akeredolu led-administration, saying he was glad and appreciated the good gesture of the governor towards law students in the state.
Adelaju stressed that the process of obtaining the scholarship should be fair and by merit.
He said Law is a financially demanding course and the gesture from the Governor would assist support the students financially and academically.
While commending the governor for his pretty works in the state, he beseeched to prioritise other areas which can further contribute to the right shaping of indigenous law students.
A student of Biochemistry at the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Kolade Bayode-Ojo applauded the governor for the gesture at this critical time in the country.
While appreciating the Governor, Bayode-ojo pleaded government should take the youth and students more serious.
In the same vein, Taiwo Aworetan, a student of Ecotourism and Wildlife Management, FUTA, said application process for the bursary was less stressful than before.
She pleaded with the authority in charge of disbursement to ensure the money gets to the students.
On his own part, Dara Ayodeji, a 400 level student of Mass Communication Department, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) said he thought the bursary was not real initially.
He said, “the bursary is a good sign for Ondo State students and I am commending the effort of the Governor.
“The government should keep helping students with these programs and make sure they pay on time.”
