Ondo SWAN chair vows to take association to next level

The newly elected Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Ondo state chapter, Mr Wahab Bankole has promised to take the association to the next level.

Wahab, who stated this after he emerged as the Chairman of the  association, promised to make members’ welfare and capacity development  his priority.

He added that timely training and seminar for members to sharpen their knowledge  professionally will be the fulcrum of his administration.

“With the cooperation and support of all members our next level of greatness is guaranteed”.

Earlier, Ondo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mr Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, while declaring  the Tri -Annual Delegates Congress/ Election open at the Ondo State Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Centre (NUJ), Alagbaka, Akure tasked the sports writers on objectivity.

He also charged members of the association to always promote local sports and be objective in reporting sporting activities.

In his goodwill at the occasion,  former board member of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Sir Steve Alabi, also frowned at the level of hooliganism in football venue.

Alabi, who was also a former National  president SWAN, also called for regular sensitisation of sports fans across the country.

In his lecture tittle “Sports a unifying factor”,  veteran sports broadcaster, Mr Ayo Ogedengbe, said government could use sports to promote peace in the country.

Ogedengbe, added that sports promote universal value that transcend language,culture and religious belief  .

 He therefore called on stakeholders to always invest in sports development, to get the youths off the street.

Also the chairman of the occasion, Mr . Akin Akinbobola, former chairman of the Ondo state football agency and the Secretary General Western Nigeria Football Federation (WNFF) admonishes the sports writers on reports that will be promoting different sports across the country and also at ensuring that great premium is placed on accuracy.

Delegates from all the chapels of the association participated in the Congress / election that was presided over by the Southwest Vice President of the association, Mr  Boye Ajayi and other notable dignitaries and stakeholders in the business of sports both in and outside the the state.

While in his statement at the occasion, the President of SWAN who was represented by the South West Vice President of the association , Boye Ajayi tasked members and the new executives to discharged their duties according to the dictates and lay-down rules and guidelines of the association. He added that the association will continue and ensure that members are always protected and carry along in scheme of events.

He also appreciated the SWANECO of the association in the state that comprises Olayemi Festus Oke, Longe Olabisi and Atolagbe Oluwafemi for doing a good job at organising and conducting the Tri-Annual delegates Congress and the election as a successful outing

During the congress, the former executive members of the Ondo SWAN were dissolved and election was conducted for another three-year term for the new executive members.

The peaceful election produced Wahab Bankole of the OSRC as the Chairman, Giwa Segun of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as the Secretary, Isaac Afolabi of the Radio Nigeria as the Assistant Secretary while Olubunmi Afuye of the Orange Fm emerged as the Financial Secretary.
