After a successful outing at the 14th Aso national Table Tennis Championship held in Abuja, where Ondo State won one gold, one silver and a bronze medal.
The state table tennis coach, Dotun Omoniyi has said the team has now shifted their attention to the forthcoming (NTTF) National Table Tennis Championship slated for Molade Okoya -Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium.
The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation Championship will kick off between May 18 to 22.
The duo of Wale Fagbamila and Mati Taiwo had won gold in men’s doubles while Mati Taiwo clinched silver in men singles and a debutant U14 cadet, Ojo Funmilayo Favour won bronze for the state.
Omoniyi said the Aso national championship afforded them the opportunity to prepare for the NTTF championship.
He said, “We resume training immediately we came back from Abuja, we work on some areas where we knew we have flaws ahead of the Lagos championship.
“We have prepared well, in terms of training, physical fitness, but our challenge is fund, because our players needed to be comfortable at the championship. How to go about accommodation, feeding and transportation is our greatest challenge, athletes need to sleep comfortable in order for them to regain strength ahead of their next game.
“We appeal to the government and the Sports Council Management to come to our aid, they have been doing it and we believe they can do it again, they should not relent on their oars to develop sports in state,” he said.
