In a fresh push to tackle electricity challenges and drive development, Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has launched the e-HEART Initiative, an ambitious scheme designed to boost power supply in health, education, agriculture, and transportation.

Aiyedatiwa, while inaugurating the steering committee in Akure on Friday, said the project was a strategic collaboration between the state, the Federal Government, and private sector partners to expand electricity access, particularly in rural areas.

He stressed that Ondo is among the first states to adopt the initiative, adding that with states now legally permitted to generate and regulate electricity, his administration is set to maximise power supply for socio-economic growth.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Power, Engr. Johnson Alabi, who chairs the committee, described the scheme as a high-impact project under the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), designed to bridge electricity gaps in underserved areas.

According to him, the funding structure will follow a 60:30:10 ratio, ensuring sustainability and widespread implementation. He added that the project would revamp public services, enhance productivity, and improve quality of life for residents.

Governor Aiyedatiwa assured the committee of adequate funding, urging members to develop a solid framework for seamless execution.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Alhaji Ibrahim Olabode Yusuf, pledged that the team would work tirelessly to achieve the project’s objectives.

The committee comprises Permanent Secretaries of key ministries, alongside Dr Gbenga Fasua, Chairman of Akure South Local Government, representing local government heads.
