The Ondo State Commandant, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Dr Akinwumi Gideon, has applauded the state Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, for living up to his roles and responsibilities as the Chief Security Officer of the state.
The security expert who congratulated the on his recent Supreme Court victory, particularly commended Governor Akeredolu for his visible approach and responses to the issues of security of lives and properties of the people not only in Ondo state, but the South-West at large.
Dr. Gideon also expressed the readiness of the executive and entire members of Vigilante Group of Nigeria in the state to assist in combating security challenges especially in the areas of herders/farmers clashes to further record positive results.
He equally encouraged the Governor to inaugurate Ondo State Vigilante Service with the officers and men of the VGN Ondo State Command as an additional arm of the state security architecture under the Ondo State Security Network Agency, to be able to complement the efforts of the Amotekun Corps in tackling security challenges in the state.
While expressing worries that majority of farmers have fled their farmlands abandoning their products for fear of being attacked by hoodlums, the security expert said VGN would support the state to ensure enough food for her citizens and export, under its blueprints operation tagged “SECURITY AND FOOD PRODUCTION IN ONDO STATE AND SOUTH WEST”.
“We all know that a tree does not make a forest, if vigilante in the state is inaugurated and empowered to join the security forces of the state we certainly know that the goals and ambitions of our governor which is to have maximum protection for all and sundry especially our farmers in Ondo state would be achieved.
“It was also the contents of our letter that his Excellency should please embrace the principle of diversification of defense which is a strategy in cyber security but applicable intelligently in human and physical security.
“We want to call the attention of our governor to the fact that very soon petroleum alone may not be able to survive the national economy and one of the best options for survival shall be agriculture for which Ondo state was known in the early days of the state, but which the current situation of security challenges being faced by the farmers has almost crumbled.
“This is the reason why we the gallant members of Vigilante Group of Nigeria Ondo state command went for the COUNTER TERRORISM training specially tailored towards detecting, deterring, forestalling and preventing any or further attacks on our farmers, in Ondo State.
” Every strategy and approaches to nip such attacks in the bud and protect our farmers and their farm products was given to our officers and men during the deep jungle counter terrorism training just concluded”, Dr. Gideon stressed.
