In a bid bring back sanity to the road and ensure safer highways, the Vehicle Inspection Unit of the Ondo State’s Ministry of transport has organized seminar for members of the Standard Motor Mechanics and Technicians Association (SMMATA), Ondo State chapter.
The event held at the VIO’s office premises last Friday had in attendance representatives of SMMATA across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State.
Speaking during the seminar, the state director, Engineer Alaba Adeleye represented by Engineer Dickson Olowoniyi noted that the training was organized to sensitise mechanics across the state on the usage of the facilities of the vehicle testing services and to as well expose them to the common vehicle fault usually unnoticed.
“Before the administration of governor Akeredolu, the type of facility for vehicle inspection you are seeing here today is not in existence, but thanks to His Excellency for this initiative.
“We have invited you here today to orientate you on how this facilities work and to as well point your attention to common mechanical faults usually unnoticed.
Dickson who noted that mechanical fault, road and the human factor are the three major causes of accident pointed out 37 common faults usually unnoticed in vehicles and explained in detail mechanics to rectifying these faults so as to avoid accident.
In the practical section, the facility Manager, Mr Olufemi Ojo took participants through the various stages of vehicle inspection and interpreted the meaning.
Speaking on behalf of the members of the association, the state chairman for SMMATA, Comrade Olu Adebayo appreciated the organizers of the seminar and particularly the governor of Ondo State for making such facilities available.
“No doubt, much has been learnt here today, I want to sincerely appreciate the organizers and especially governor Akeredolu for this great initiative.”
