By Precious Owolabi
It was jubilation galore as Ondo State workers began receiving the payment of the ₦73,000 minimum wage with their November 2024 salaries, as promised by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The Hope reliably gathered that local government workers have already started receiving their November salaries, while those in the core civil service are expected to begin receiving salary alerts from today.
Governor Aiyedatiwa had earlier, announced the approval of N73,000 minimum wage for the state workers.
The governor also expressed the commitment of his administration to the welfare of the people of the state.
Aiyedatiwa made the announcement during the kick-off of his campaign in Ondo town, Ondo State, ahead of the November 16 governorship election.
The governor declared that despite the fact that the Federal Government approved N70,000 as the new minimum wage, “Ondo will go a step further by paying N73,000 to our workers.”
When contacted, Comrade Ademola Olapade, Acting Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Head of the Labour side in the minimum wage negotiations with the state government, confirmed that issues causing delays in the payment of the new minimum wage had been resolved.
He stated that the state government would commence payment of the new salary structure on Wednesday, as council workers have already begun receiving salary alerts.
Olapade had told newsmen last weekend, that: “We are not going to join the strike in Ondo State because, on our side, we have concluded arrangements with the state government.
“The payment was supposed to commence last week but was delayed due to a sliding error, which has now been corrected.
“So, by the grace of God, workers in Ondo State, including local government (LG) workers, will start receiving their November salaries with the minimum wage.”
He reiterated the union’s commitment to ensuring that workers’ welfare remains paramount to the union.
