One arraigned over alleged assault on traffic warden

A 31-year-old man, Taiwo Orofin, has been dragged before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault on a traffic warden.

The accused person allegedlycommitted the offence on May 28, 2019 at 9:45 a.m. at Phase 11, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused person slapped the complainant, Inspector Samuel Ajiwe, while performing his lawful duty.

He added that the accused person inflicted injury on the upper lip of the complainant.

The offence contravened sections 355 and 356 of the Criminal Law of Osun, 2002.

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge bordering on assault.

The defence counsel, Mr Olalekan Babatunde, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms, promising that he would not jump bail.

The magistrate Muhibah Olatunji granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.

The case was adjourned till June 13, 2019.
