One dead, several  injured  in Akoko autocrash

Tragedy struck in Ogbagi, Akoko Northwest Local Government Area of the Ondo state on Sunday, as one person died and ten others sustained several degrees of injury in a multiple accident involving two vehicles and three motor bikes.

The accident which happened around 7.00 am, according to an eyewitness occurred when A J5 bus coming from Ikare Akoko rammed into an Almera car coming from Ese Akoko on its way to Akure.

According to the eyewitness, when the car was hit by the bus, it went ahead to hit the motor bikes thereby leading to the death of one of the motor bike riders while others, including the occupiers of the Almeria commercial car got injured.

The Divisional Police Officer Ogbagi Akoko Police Division, SP Kunle Fabuluje confirmed the accident and said that his men in conjunction with the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ikare Akoko, rescued occupants of the vehicles.

Speaking in the same vein, the Unit Commander of FRSC, Ikare Akoko, Mr Jimoh Basiru attributed the accident to recklessness.

He disclosed that his men carried the only casualty and those who sustained injuries to the State Specialist Hospital, Ikare, where the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Wale Oguntuase confirmed that one person was  brought in dead and deposited in the morgue.

 Oguntuase also stated that three others with serious cases were referred to Federal Medical Centre, Owo while the rest were admitted in the hospital and their conditions have remained stable.

Meanwhile,  a motorcyclist carrying two passengers coming from Okene kogi state and got to Egbe Ekiti road junction at Irun Akoko 5 kilometers   lost control and rammed into a vehicle and died instantly.

Efforts to speak with Irun Akoko DPO,  SP Ade Akintola proved abortive.  But a police man at Irun  confirmed the story and showed me the vehicle and the bike involved.
