The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, has congratulated the Alaafin-elect, Prince Abimbola Owoade, on his appointment as the new custodian of the timeless heritage of Oyo Kingdom.
The monarch, in a statement issued by his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare, expressed that the House of Oduduwa, under the leadership of Arole Oduduwa Olofin Adimula, warmly welcomes the new Alaafin. The decision, he noted, marks the beginning of a new era of prosperity, unity, and cultural preservation for the people of Oyo.
As Co-Chair of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN) and Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC), the Ooni commended the royal family, the kingmakers, and the people of Oyo, both at home and in the diaspora, for their patience during the more-than-two-year-long process.
He also praised the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, for providing a conducive environment and ensuring a smooth transition that has ushered in a new royal era.
“Historically, Oyo and Ile-Ife share an unbreakable bond rooted in divine origin and Yoruba cultural preservation. Oyo remains a very important crown jewel in Yoruba land. This interconnected lineage emphasises the significance of the Alaafin’s throne, which remains a vital pillar in the structure of Yoruba traditional governance and heritage.
“The appointment of Prince Abimbola Owoade signifies the continuation of this sacred bond and the unwavering strength of the Yoruba cultural legacy,” he stated.
