Ooni tasks INEC on credible polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) and relevant stakeholders have been urged to ensure free, fair and credible polls in order to promote  stability in Nigeria.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, gave the advice  while addressing journalists during the 2019 Aje Festival celebration in Ile-Ife .

Oba Ogunwusi said only a peaceful election can guarantee wealth and prosperity in the country.

He urged the electoral umpire to conduct a free and fair election for the growth of Nigeria.

The monarch who led thousands of Ile Ife indigenes of different strata   to the festival noted that Aje was a deity in charge of wealth and prosperity.

He said that the festival had a great positive influence on Nigeria’s economy and peaceful co-existence.

According to him, the first economic activity in Africa started at the popular Igbomekun (Ojaafe) Market in Ile Ife.

He acknowledged the role played by the Igbo people of the eastern part of the country in doing business.

“We must go back to our history, this celebration belongs to all, including our brothers and sisters from the East.

“Igbos are part of this celebration, because Nigeria’s economy won’t be complete without mentioning them,” he stressed.

Also speaking, Iyaloja of the Federation, Chief Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, expressed her deep belief in the celebration, and assured Nigerians that the country’s economy would receive a boost soonest.

She advised all and sundry to promote the prestigious Yoruba cultural and traditional heritage.
