Ore accident: FRSC warns against overspeeding

From Kayode Olabanji, Okitipupa

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ore Unit Command, has advised motorists and other road users to always refrain from over-speeding on the highway to avert avoidable road accidents.
The Unit Commander, Mr Sikiru Alonge, gave the advise while confirming the ghastly auto accident that occurred on the Ore-Okitipupa axis of Ondo State last weekend to The Hope Metro.
He said that five people who sustained varying degrees of injuries were rescued from the accident and had been taken to the State Specialist Hospital, Okitipupa and Prima Hospital in Ore for proper care.
Alonge said that joint efforts by the FRSC, Nigerian Police and Army helped to quell the fire, clear the debris and evacuate the burnt bodies from the accident site.
He, however could not confirm the number of dead bodies in the incident.
An eyewitness told The Hope Metro that the passengers on Coaster bus were believed to be coming from an event and were returning to Akure.
He said no fewer than 10 people died on the spot in the accident, adding that the drivers of the J5 bus which was loaded with tanks of local gin and the Coaster bus had a collision while they were trying to avoid a deep porthole.
He added that the local gin in the J5 bus aided the fire.
Another source, a drive,r told The Hope Metro that the two drivers were initially driving too fast, and in an attempt to swerve their vehicles to avoid the potholes they both rammed inside the bush and ended up colliding which resulted in gas inferno.
He said immediately after the incident occurred he called on residents of the community for help and tried to put the fire off so as to rescue the occupants of the two buses but all efforts proved abortive.
The Hope also learnt that the remains of those six occupants of the buses have been deposited at a morgue while those rescued were also receiving treatment at a private hospital in Ore, the headquarter of Odigbo local government area.
