Residents of Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government area of Ondo State, have lamented the persistent hike in telecom tariffs .
It will be recall that telecom operators implemented a tariff adjustment of up to 50 per cent, affecting various data bundles, as approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in January.
The Hope gathered that MTN’s 1.5GB monthly data plan, previously priced at ₦1,000, has been replaced by a 1.8GB plan now costing ₦1,500.
A TikToker identified as Lady B, while expressing her displeasure over the development, stated that the hike in data prices has made it difficult for her to use social media frequently.
“Data is not as strong as it was before. It has forced us to cut our coat according to our size,” she lamented.
A POS operator identified as Suarez also decried the situation, stating that the increase in data prices has affected his business.
“Selling data has little profit. We are trying to maintain the former data prices to impress our customers, but now, we are at the receiving end,” he said.
“This new data price will force me to stop selling data to my customers unless something is done to make it profitable for us,” he added.
