Ore residents decry surge in nighttime thefts

By Kayode Afolabi, Ore

Residents of Pipeline and Omileye communities in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government area of Ondo State, have raised concerns over the escalating theft of phones and other valuables.

Our correspondent, who visited the areas, gathered that phones, laptops, clothes, and even  kegs of palm oil were frequently stolen during the night.

A resident identified as Mr Sunday lamented that the issue has persisted for months.

He said, “we are tired of the incessant stealing in this environment. We can’t continue to live in fear.

“The rate at which some individuals steal and dispossess people of their belongings is quite alarming in this area.

“We have been silent for a long time, but now we need to cry out for help.”

Also, a trader identified as Mrs Adeola expressed frustration over the situation.

“It is quite unfortunate that the incessant stealing has lingered for months without a single arrest made in this area,” she said.
