Residents of Ogbe in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, have raised concerns over the increasing incidents of theft in their community.
Our correspondent, who visited the affected areas, gathered that several shops stocked with foodstuffs, mobile phones, motor parts, medicines and power banks were burgled, with the items carted away by unknown persons.
Speaking with our correspondent, a resident who simply identified himself as Folarin, lamented that the situation had persisted for months.
He said, “We are tired of the incessant stealing in this environment; we are currently living in fear.
“It’s like they have a map. No night is safe. We often hear footsteps, and before we realise what is happening, they are gone with our belongings,” he lamented.
A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also expressed frustration over the situation.
He said, “We have been silent in this community for a long time, but now we need to cry out for help, especially as the festive season approaches.”
