OSOPADEC 2019 appropriation bill committed to C’ttee for scrutiny

The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas  Development Commission appropriation bill 2019 was yesterday committed to the House Committee for proper scrutiny.

The appropriation bill with the sum of eleven billion, seven hundred and thirty two million, four hundred and fifteen thousand, eight hundred and eighteen naira, ninety-nine Kobo was committed to the committee after its second reading.

According to the appropriation bill, the proposed capital expenditure of the commission for this year gulped the sum of N10,074,716,724.53k only while the recurrent expenditure got N1,657,699,094.46k out of the total budget.

Comparing the commission’s 2019 appropriation bill with that of 2018 budget , this year appropriation bill was higher with the sum of N2,705,513,,500.13k.

Moving a motion for the debate on the bill, the Acting Majority Leader, Mr. Maito Jamiu noted that women fold and youths were being taken care of in the bill as the provision for infrastructure was also Improved.

Jamiu noted non-releasing of fund as a major problem facing appropriation bill when passed into law and therefore urged the executive arm of government! on the timely release of fund for the commission.

Seconding the motion, a member representing Ese-Odo constituency, Mr. Vincent Obadiah, said the bill if passed into law and implemented will improve the lives of the people of the area

Obadiah appealed to the executive arm of government on the prompt release of fund for projects in the bill when passed into law.

After thorough debate of the House on the bill, the Speaker of the House, Mr. Bamidele Oleyelogun, said the bill will further enhance activities of the commission and cushion the effect of poverty in the area when passed into law.

He told the committee saddled with the responsibility to scrutinize the bill and give its reports on the bill to the House very soon.

Meanwhile, the House observed a minute silence in honour of the departed Olowo of Owo, Oba Victor Folagbade Olateru- Olagbegi, who joined his ancestors recently in the state.
