By Victor Akinkuolie, Igbokoda

The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) has reiterated its readiness to partner with the Ilaje Local Government area of Ondo State to embark on more developmental projects across the council area.

The Secretary of the Commission, Princess Aboke Ilawole, made this known during a meeting between OSOPADEC officials and the management of Ilaje Local Government, held recently in Igbokoda, the administrative headquarters of the council.

Ilawole, who led other members of the Commission to the local government, said OSOPADEC has concluded plans to initiate more projects, including the construction of additional local roads, schools, classrooms, culverts, and the landscaping of the local government secretariat, as well as the building of more structures across the council area.

At the meeting, which was also attended by several principal officers of the local government and officials from the Works Department, the ongoing dualisation of the Okitipupa-Igbokoda Road, along with other notable projects undertaken by the Ondo State Government, was highlighted.

The OSOPADEC Secretary explained that the Commission will also embark on projects that will positively enhance the economy of the riverine communities. She assured that any project undertaken by the Commission will be properly monitored and completed within the shortest possible time, despite delays often caused by the rainy season.

Ilawole further disclosed that, as part of the Commission’s initiatives, plans have been concluded to engage local youths from Ugbo, Mahin and Gbagwa areas of the local government, and provide them with employment opportunities and skills development to enhance their livelihoods.

She noted that the initiative forms part of OSOPADEC’s commitment to promoting development and improving the quality of life of residents.

According to Ilawole, “The developmental projects about to be undertaken by the Commission in Ilaje Local Government are a testament to the commitment of OSOPADEC and the state government to promoting growth and development in the region.

“With the support of stakeholders, the projects are expected to bring significant benefits to the people of Ilaje, including improved infrastructure, employment opportunities and an enhanced quality of life for the coastal communities,” she stated.

Responding, the Chairman of the Local Government, Mr. Maurice Oripenaiye, expressed appreciation to the Commission and the Ondo State Government for what he described as their efforts towards driving more development to the council area.

While calling for additional projects that will unlock the potential of the region, the Ilaje Local Government chairman assured the Commission of the council’s readiness to provide an enabling environment for the speedy completion of all projects undertaken by OSOPADEC.

He also used the occasion to call on members of the public and other interested individuals to establish businesses in the area, assuring them that his administration will always provide a conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

Oripenaiye also paid glowing tribute to Governor Aiyedatiwa, for embarking on several road projects in the area, noting that the projects will bring much-needed relief to the people of Ilaje and its environs.

He further commended the OSOPADEC Secretary for what he described as her leadership and dedication to promoting development in the area, and pledged the council’s continued partnership with the Commission in delivering more projects to the region.
