Operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps have apprehended two young men alleged to be serial rapists, along with 12 other suspects involved in various crimes across the state.
The rape suspects, Abdulateef Ajao (28) and Raji Ridwan (25), were reportedly arrested for separate incidents of attempted sexual assault.
Confirming the arrests while parading the suspects, Commander of Osun Amotekun, Dr. Isaac Omoyele, said the operatives also arrested individuals for offences including armed robbery, theft, and drug possession.
Omoyele stated that on Monday, June 2,2025 at about 6:30hrs, Abdulateef Ajao was apprehended in Ode-Omu, Osogbo, after allegedly luring an 8-year-old girl, a primary three pupil, into his residence under the pretense of buying pepper from her.
Amotekun boss said the victim managed to escape and raised an alarm, prompting nearby Amotekun operatives to intervene and arrest the suspect.
In another case, on May 29, 2025, Raji Ridwan was arrested for attempting to rape a 17-year-old girl, a 200-level student of the Federal University of Health Technology, Ila-Orangun. According to the Amotekun boss, Ridwan also lured his victim under the guise of buying pepper.
He said the girl managed to escape and reported the incident to her parents. A formal complaint was lodged at the Amotekun Ayedaade Command, which led to Ridwan’s arrest. He has since confessed to the crime.
In a separate incident, on May 29, 2025, at about 20:40hrs, the Amotekun Corps received a distress call from Itapa, in Atakumosa East, about unidentified armed men in military camouflage terrorisng the community.
The suspects were reportedly armed with sophisticated weapons and had already attacked residents.
Swift intervention by Amotekun operatives led to the arrest of five suspects: Ayodele Ogunsola (45), Lekan Adeyeri (35), Ariyo Dare (40), Sunday Adeyeri (54), and Adeyeri Oladele (36).
While some gang members are still at large, those arrested have confessed to the crime. Recovered from them were a pump-action rifle and criminal charms. Victims have also come forward to identify the suspects. Investigations are ongoing.
The commander hinted that six individuals were arrested for the possession of cannabis (Indian hemp) following a tip-off from a Good Samaritan about drug distribution activities at a vulnerable location in Ejigbo.
The Amotekun Narcotics Squad acted swiftly and arrested: Makanjuola Sodiq (29), Jide Ojo (25), Toheeb Moruf (29),
Azeez Abdulai (20) and Ademola Kehinde (25).
The suspects were caught with quantities of cannabis sativa and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, Oladimeji Abdullateef (35) was arrested in connection with the theft of building materials—specifically, Molly blocks worth ₦450,000—from a construction site in the GRA area of Osogbo. The arrest followed a complaint by Mr. Abdulrosheed Oseni. The suspect was traced to his hideout, confessed during interrogation, and further investigations are ongoing to recover additional stolen items.
Omoyele assured that all suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
