…Harps on intelligence gathering
By Michael Ofulue, Osogbo
The Osun State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Dr Adekunle Omoyele, has assured residents of adequate security for their lives and property.
The commander gave this assurance during a one-day seminar with intelligence officers from local government commands held at the state headquarters in Osogbo.
He stated that the agency is committed to strengthening the security apparatus in Osun State, emphasising that effective crime prevention, detection, and control is the responsibility of all.
According to him, the Amotekun Corps is focused on intelligence gathering and capacity building, which are crucial for addressing security challenges.
Omoyele urged intelligence officers to carry out their duties diligently and without blemish. This call to action highlights the importance of integrity and professionalism in law enforcement.
In the context of law enforcement, discharging duties diligently means that officers must act in good faith, with care, skill, and prudence, and in accordance with the law. Failure to do so can result in liability, as seen in cases where officers have been held accountable for willfully neglecting their duties.
Omoyele’s directive is vital in maintaining public trust and ensuring that the Osun Amotekun Corps operates to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism. By emphasising the need for diligence and integrity, Omoyele is promoting a culture of accountability within the corps.
The Osun Amotekun boss also reassured residents of Osun State of maximum security for lives and property during a radio programme on Fresh 104.9 FM, Osogbo.
He emphasised Governor Senator Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke’s commitment to reforming the Osun Amotekun Corps to compete with other top-notch security agencies.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to Amotekun or other security agencies without hesitation.
He also announced that Governor Adeleke has approved the recruitment of at least 1,000 personnel into the corps, bolstering its capacity to ensure public safety.
The Corps Commander expressed gratitude to the Osun State House of Assembly Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, and House members for their support in passing the Osun Amotekun Amendment Bill. This development is expected to positively impact the corps’ effectiveness.
