Osun Amotekun nabs woman with fake naira notes

The Osun State Amotekun Corps have arrested a 30-year-old woman, Rebecca Ako, for possessing fake ₦100 currency notes in Osun.

Ako was apprehended by operatives at Sabo Market in Ilesa following intelligence information.

It was reported that she was caught using the counterfeit ₦100 notes to buy food items from her various customers at the market.

The Osun Amotekun Field Commander, Dr Omoyele Adekunle, while parading the suspect alongside others involved in criminal activities, disclosed that the fake currency suspect was using ₦100 notes to purchase food items in the market.

Other suspects paraded for various offences, such as stealing, murder, and motorcycle theft, include Rodiat Abdulrasak, Lasisi Kazeem, Babatunde Aderemi, Olatiwon Quyum, Olaniyan Afeez, Tajudeen Riliwan, Adegboye Glory, and Bidemi Adebayo.

Adekunle further explained that operatives arrested Rebecca Ako after she had used some fake ₦1000 notes to buy food items from unsuspecting traders at Sabo Market in Ilesa. The suspect confessed to receiving the fake currency from one Mrs Elizabeth via a dispatched rider from Abuja.

According to Adekunle, Ako admitted to paying ₦50,000 for ₦200,000 worth of counterfeit notes from her accomplice. She had been enriching herself with the fake money before being detected and arrested by the Amotekun corps. Investigations are ongoing.

The Field Commander further revealed that other criminals were apprehended for offences including burglary, theft, murder, motorcycle snatching, transformer cable theft, and attempted kidnapping.

Adekunle stated that the suspects would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution, urging the public to remain vigilant of suspicious activities in their surroundings.

He called for collective collaboration among security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property in the state, adding that effective crime prevention, detection, and control is a responsibility for all.

One of the suspects, 19-year-old Olatiwon Quyum, who was caught for snatching a motorcycle, confessed to stealing a bike belonging to one Ilesanmi Oladele. He said he took the motorcycle to Ifo in Ogun State before being tracked and arrested by Amotekun operatives following credible intelligence.
