‘Osun APC Guber primary peaceful’

From Fisayo Akinduro, Osogbo

A non-governmental organization, Advocacy for Advancement of Peace and Harmony in Africa Initiative (ADAPHAI) has adjudged the All Progressives Congress’ primary election in Osun State as peaceful and orderly.

ADAPHAI, an independent observer during the exercise asserted that the process was strictly in line with electoral guidelines and democratic ethos.

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, the National Coordinator of the group, Comrade Sulaimon Suberu, averred that the process allowed every member of the party to exercise franchise in the atmosphere of peace.

”On the primary election of All Progressives Congress, APC, the preponderant reports from the 332 wards monitored by our officials adjudged the process as peaceful and orderly.

“The pattern of conduct of the process was credible and in line with democratic ethos and electoral guidelines.

“The turnout of members of the party was massive and participation was active and encouraging, every member was given opportunities to exercise their franchise without any form of intimidation.

“All in all, the process of the APC primary election in Osun State was free, fair and democratic, it is indeed a model for other states and other political parties”, Suberu said.

The Peace Advocate however condemned the activities of some politicians in the state, in the count down to the Saturday’s exercise, describing it as divisive and vindictive.

He also frowned at what he called a reckless display of power by a political appointee of the Federal Government from the State, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly call the individual to order to prevent further infraction.

Suberu, eulogized the peaceful nature of the Governor of the State, Gboyega Oyetola, noting that he has been very calm in the face of provocation.

According to him, “We have been monitoring political events in Osun for many years with satisfactory knowledge and understanding of the inherent dynamics in it’s polity.

“The recent political development in the state has put Osun on the front burner of national debate and political discourse.

“As a leading organization with mandate to promote good governance and political stability through propagation of peaceful co-existence and non-violent culture, we considered it paramount to do a thorough intervention in the state for the purpose of ensuring peaceful political process.

“It is a known fact that the state by all standards remains a peaceful federating unit, arguably the most peaceful.

“The capacity to sustain that feat solely rests on leadership, it is on that note that we commend the Governor of the State, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, for his peaceful nature and maturity to remain calm irrespective of degree of provocation.”

Meanwhile, Commissioner for Finance, Mr Bola Oyebamiji has congratulated Governor Oyetola for clinching the ticket to represent the Osun All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming July 2022 gubernatorial elections in the state.

The Commissioner spoke shortly after the Governor was declared as the winner of Saturday’s primaries conducted across the State where he emerged as winner by polling 222,169.

Governor Oyetola defeated two other candidates, former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Mushood Adeoti who polled 12, 921 votes and former Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives,  Lasun Yusuf who got 460 votes.

Oyebamiji thanked members of the party in the State for choosing the right candidate to represent the party at the polls come July this year, saying it is gratifying for them to have decided to give the APC flag to a man who has painstakingly strived to move the state forward in his first term.

He congratulated the Governor for winning the first stage of the journey into the second term which is the intra-party elections, while calling on members of the party and residents of the state to remain resolute to re-elect the Governor in the second stage of the contest which is the inter-party elections coming up in July.

According to him, “I warmly congratulate my Governor, the people’s Governor on this victory after members of our great party have casted their votes for him during our party primaries. The landslide victory has affirmed that Governor Oyetola is indeed a progressive man who has done nothing but move the state forward.

I thank our party members, especially our supporters, for their resolute spirit to cast their votes for Governor Oyetola, I am happy for their comportment, organisation and for allowing peace and tranquility to reign all through the process, this shows their determination to ensure that the people’s Governor is returned into office.

“I must also thank the security operatives for remaining faithful to the main objective which is to supervise, monitor and have a transparent, free, fair and peaceful election.

“Let me end by telling our members as well as the good people of our dear state that we have only crossed the first hurdle, the second hurdle comes up in July which is the inter-party elections, they must maintain the same spirit by trooping out enmass to vote for a man who is really determined to move the state forward and that is Governor Adegboyega Oyetola”, Oyebamiji stated.
