Osun APC warns members against divisive politics

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned its members against jeopardising the party’s chances of reclaiming power in the 2026 governorship election through actions driven by personal interests.
The party called for restraint among members, urging them to avoid activities that could tarnish the party’s image or sow discord.
This warning was issued by the state chairman of the party, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement released through the party’s Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi.
Lawal expressed concern over the conduct of some party members, noting that their self-centred actions were promoting unnecessary divisions within the party and undermining its unity.
He appealed to those stoking tensions over the selection of the party’s governorship candidate to exercise patience and await the party’s official decision.
Lawal described the situation as a troubling sign of indiscipline among stakeholders, driven by desperation to influence the party’s choice of candidate for the forthcoming election.
The APC chairman lamented the ongoing public campaigns by some party members for their preferred aspirants, despite the party’s official ban on such activities.
He said such actions were detrimental to the collective interest of the party.
“I am worried and surprised at the way and manner some members and leaders of our party have been going about campaigning openly for their choice of governorship aspirants when the ban hasn’t been lifted on same, which is to the detriment of the party,” Lawal said.
He continued: “Our party is a potent one, which is why there has been visible scrambling by some members to promote their favourites. However, it is callous, selfish, and wicked to allow anybody’s ambition to tear our party apart.”
Lawal assured members that the party remains committed to fairness, justice, and the rule of law in determining its governorship candidate.
He emphasised that any decision would follow due process, guided by the party’s constitution and divine intervention.
“For the umpteenth time, I want to reiterate through this medium that the leadership of our party in the state has not adopted anyone as a favourite candidate. When it is time, an acceptable candidate will emerge through proper channels,” he said.
He called on party members to prioritise unity and cooperation as they work towards reclaiming power in the state.
He reminded them of the expectations of Osun State residents, who are eager for a change in leadership at Bola Ige House, Abere.
Lawal also warned that any party member found promoting discord would face strict disciplinary measures, as provided by the party’s constitution.
“It is our policy that any action or inaction of any identified obstinate and recalcitrant member of our party, who has prioritised the deliberate causing or promoting of disharmony in our party, shall be viewed with all the seriousness it deserves,” he cautioned.
