Osun state government has assured of its commitment to the sustainability and accessibility to health facilities in the state.

The state governor, Gboyega Oyetola gave the assurance during a delegation visit by the United States Agency for International Development and Social Health Insurance Scheme, (SHIS), to his office.

Oyetola expressed happiness that the society is fast recognising the importance of insurance.

He observed that the insurance scheme will guarantee regular treatment and ensure access of the vulnerable to healthcare services.

The governor who hinted that free healthcare may not be fully sustained by the government due to paucity of funds, expressed satisfaction with the coming of the health insurance scheme which will lessen the burden of free healthcare on the government.

“It saves everybody looking for money for treatment. It guarantees that you will have access to healthcare almost on a 24-hour basis.

The governor expressed hope that the body in charge of the scheme will execute the programme with all sincerity as the government will support it.

” I believe that this programme will be operated with all sincerity and transparency that is required.”

Earlier, the General Manager of the Health Insurance Scheme, Pharm Idiat Anibilowo applauded the state government for the attention given to health.

She congratulated the state for being one of the pilot states alongside Abia and Niger states chosen for the Federal Government projects on Primary Healthcare system.

She described the health scheme as a veritable tool for people in the formal and informal sector, as the free healthcare scheme is for the vulnerable.

The delegation commended the state for being ahead of other states in its implementation, noting that the budget on health will drop if the state government makes the scheme vibrant.

The State Coordinator of  SHIS, Dr Niyi Ogini however described the project as a paradigm shift.
