‘Osun committed to women empowerment’

Osun state government has restated its commitment to women empowerment and their well-being in the society.

The wife of the state governor, Kafayat Oyetola gave the assurance during an empowerment programme organized by the Forum of Wives of Council Chairmen (FOWICC) in Osogbo, the state capital.

The forum distributed food items and other materials to 2,000 widows and aged in the state.

Mrs Oyetola, while distributing the materials, said the programme was to assist women living in poverty.

She said women empowerment and wellbeing in the society was a major concern of the state government.

She said the state government would continue to empower those in need, adding that nobody would be left behind in the various social protection programmes in the state.

On the forthcoming general elections, the wife of the governor pleaded with the women to shun violence before, during and after the polls.

Earlier, the President of  FOWICC, Mrs Comfort Abiodun, appreciated Governor Gboyega Oyetola for his support morally and financially to make the programme a success.

She said the distribution of the food stuffs and other  materials were aimed at alleviating poverty among the aged and widows in the state.

Abiodun said all widows and aged in all the nine Federal Constituencies in the state would benefit from the distribution of the materials.

Other items distributed are; crutches, wheel chairs, mattresses, among others.

Pupils of the School for the Handicapped were also presented with school bags, table, chairs as well as food items.
