Osun communal clash: Adeleke relaxes 24-hour curfew

By Michael Ofulue, Osogbo

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has ordered the immediate relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed on Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun communities, reducing it to 17 hours daily, from 2 pm to 7 am.

This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, and made available to journalists in Osogbo on Friday.

The relaxation of the curfew is set to take effect from Friday, March 28, 2025, until further notice.

Governor Adeleke said the decision was taken to alleviate the hardship faced by residents of the affected towns and allow them to attend to urgent needs.

While commending the cessation of hostilities, the governor expressed concern over reports of another killing, for which the police have made an arrest.

He warned that “any individual or group found instigating violence will face the full weight of the law.”

The governor directed the joint security taskforce to maintain round-the-clock surveillance to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.

Additionally, he instructed the state emergency agency to intensify relief efforts for displaced residents, as earlier directed.

The Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin-Osun communities have been embroiled in a longstanding land dispute that has led to the loss of lives, destruction of houses, and damage to properties.

During his visit to the troubled areas, Governor Adeleke ordered the immediate distribution of relief materials to displaced persons and urged security agencies to remain on high alert to forestall any further escalation of the crisis.
