Osun distributes face masks to market women

Osun State Government yesterday distributed face masks and hand sanitizers to market women in the state.

Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Dr. Bode  Olanipekun presented the face masks and hand sanitizers to the market women through Iyaloja General of the  state.

The state Governor, Gboyega Oyetola had visited the popular Igbonna market on Monday to know the level of compliance to social distancing and use of face masks.

While presenting the materials, Olanipekun said, “Governor Oyetola understands that clustering and the largest clusters in any community are markets. Spreading of the virus is faster in such environments, hence the need for the state government to prioritize the welfare  of market men and women.”

Olanipekun further stressed that the state government procured the face masks and hand sanitizers for the market men and women free, in order to halt the spread of COVID-19, advising that the items must be used religiously.

Also speaking during the presentation, Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Pharm Siji Olamiju noted that the state government has always been proactive even before any case of Coronavirus was recorded in the state.

He stated that the materials being distributed was done through the foresight, saying prevention is better, safer and less costlier than the cure.

Iyaloja General, Alhaja Awawu Asindemade, who represented the market women appreciated the efforts of Governor Oyetola in tackling the deadly Coronavirus.

She equally commended the state government for taking care of the market women during this ‘trying time.’
