Osun empowers  farmers

Osun state government has restated it’s commitment to bringing fundamental change to the standard of living through agriculture.

Osun State governor,  Gboyega Oyetola disclosed this during  women farmers empowerment by wife of the governor, Kafayat, in the state during the weekend.

Oyetola said agriculture runs every economy but people’s trade and commerce can run effectively if beneficiaries of loans, particularly farmers make the facility revolving by paying back as at when due.

The governor who described the initiative by his wife as a challenge for the government, thumbed up the women for taking up the challenge.

In her address, President of Ileri Oluwa Development-Initiative (IOD), Mrs Oyetola said agricultural sector has always been the major pillar for the sustenance of humanity.

She said the focus of the initiative was to ensure that women in the state were fully engaged in vegetable plantation to support local consumption.

Her words: ” the vegetable scheme had been designed in three modules which includes; the training module, the distribution of improved seeds that are expected to give good yields within a very short period to the women as well as the giving out of loans to the women to kick start the vegetable plantations.”

President, All Farmers Association, AFA, Osun state chapter, Mr Kayode Afolabi described the initiative as a direct impact intervention programme for farmers.

He thanked the first lady for empowering farmers with the first 100 days of governor Oyetola in office.
