Osun govt assures residents of support during emergency

The Osun state government has restated its commitment to provide necessary support and logistics for the safety of lives and property during emergency situations.

The Deputy Governor, Mr Benedict Alabi made this known while receiving the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) team in his office in Osogbo.

The NEMA team was led by the Head of Ekiti Operation Office covering Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states, Mr Afolayan Olusegun accompanied by the leadership of Osun State Emergency Management Agency (OSEMA) led by its General Manager, Mr Olanipekun Olanrewaju.

Alabi charged the agency to be proactive in the discharge of their duties towards preventing disasters.

He implored the management of NEMA to improve on sensitization about management and prevention of disasters, stressing that the government has from time to time been providing necessary support for the agency.

He announced that, Governor Oyetola last week approved the release of funds for the purpose of forth coming International Day for Disaster Reduction on October 13 every year as set aside by the United Nations.

The Deputy Governor maintained that this is to reaffirm the commitment of the state government to disaster reduction.

While assuring the agency of the continued support of the government, he however called on people to always avoid whatever can cause disasters either natural or man made.
