Osun Govt ramps up enforcement of town planning laws

By Michael Ofulue, Osogbo

The Osun State Government has intensified efforts to tackle the widespread disregard for town planning regulations across urban centres in the state.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Hon. George Alabi, during Imole Ayo, a weekly sensitisation programme on OSBC Radio and Television.

The programme, which highlights the developmental strides of the Ademola Adeleke’s administration, is coordinated by the office of the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed.

Alabi noted that Adeleke’s administration has streamlined processes related to land acquisition and the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O), making them faster and more efficient.

According to him, C of O applications can now be processed within a few months once land surveys are cleared — a significant improvement from past procedures. This reform, he said, is designed to boost business activities and attract investments into the state.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to promoting ease of doing business, the Commissioner assured prospective investors that land allocation for business ventures — including factories and commercial premises — has been simplified.

He encouraged interested parties to approach the ministry for preliminary interviews and guidance.

Alabi also raised concerns over the disruptive activities of land speculators and encroachers, urging the public to support the government’s efforts by reporting such cases to the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning. He promised that all reports would be treated with strict confidentiality.
