Osun LG leadership crisis: Adeleke begins statewide briefing, meets Akande

By Michael Ofulue, Osogbo

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has launched a statewide consultation with key stakeholders to address recent controversies surrounding local government leadership in the state.

As part of the briefing initiative, the Governor will meet with prominent leaders, including the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers, in a special session scheduled for Thursday.

To kick off the engagements, Adeleke visited former Osun State Governor and elder statesman, Chief Bisi Akande, at his Ibadan residence. Accompanied by senior state officials, the Governor discussed critical state and national matters with the former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on the local government crisis, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the rule of law, emphasising that all parties should seek legal resolution rather than resorting to self-help, which could lead to further unrest.

He called for patience and legal recourse to prevent loss of lives and property.

On national affairs, the Governor praised Chief Akande’s role in fostering political stability at the national level.

He reiterated Osun State’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration and highlighted the strong partnership between the state and the federal government across various sectors.

Addressing Chief Akande, Governor stated, “We are here to pay homage to you as a respected elder statesman and my predecessor. My visit also marks the beginning of consultations with leaders on developments in Osun State. Your relationship with my late father makes this visit even more significant.”

In response, Chief Akande welcomed the Governor’s visit, describing it as a positive step despite their political differences.
