Osun LG polls: Stop threatening my Life, OSSIEC boss cries out

As all is now set for the October 15,Local Government Elections in Osun State, the State Independent Electoral Commissioner, OSSIEC, Otunba Segun Oladitan has cried out over threat to his life

He pleaded with those who are behind the threat to desist because  is in the hand of Almighty God.

The, OSSIEC boss who advised those who are aggrieved with the position of the Commission to conduct the election to champion their case through the appropriate quarters and hinted that he will not run foul to the Laws of the Land.

It would be recalled that some political parties especially the main opposition party PDP, had warned the outgoing Governor Gboyega Oyetola and his party APC on the inherent danger should they go ahead to conduct the election.

Addressing the media on the conduct of the election at OSSIEC headquarters in Osogbo, the chairman dismissed any litigation stopping the elections to be held as scheduled.

Oladitan stated that OSSIEC  was inaugurated since June, 2020 principally to conduct local government elections adding that many unforeseen situations had hampered the ability of the commission.

Some of the reasons, according to Oladitan  were court litigations, COVID-19 pandemic, End-SARS saga and necessary enabling Law.

He stated that the State House of Assembly had recently enacted Osun State independent Electoral Commission Law 2022 which had been duly assented to by the state Governor.

According to OSSIEC boss, all the inhibiting factors have been ameliorated, thereby making the coast very clear for the commission  to conduct the elections.

He said previous laws on Local Government Elections in the State had been repealed.

He announced that the LG polls will be conducted on October 15,2022.

Oladitan said the commission has contacted relevant stakeholders and had been carrying out in-house preparations for the conduct of local government elections.

His words” all the political parties in the state have been informed of the conduct of the elections.

In accordance with the oath which members of the commission took, “we shall ensure that the elections are free, fair, transparent and credible.

” We therefore seek for the support of member of  the fourth estate of the realm in giving balanced, fair and impartial reportage of our activities before, during and after the elections.” he stated.
