As part of efforts to boost the supply of electricity, the Osun State Government said it has concluded arrangements to partner with the Federal Rural Electrification Agency.
This was made known by the Commissioner for Energy, Festus Adeyemo during a working visit to the offices of Intergovernmental Relations Lead and Focal Officer for Nigeria Electrification Project in Abuja.
The aim of the visit, Adeyemo revealed, is to facilitate the distribution of electricity in rural communities which will in turn make life better for residents and boost economic activities.
The Commissioner also stated that the aim of the visit was to familiarise, solicit support and collaborate with the agency in the area of electrification of off grid areas and sub-hubs of rural communities.
“My Ministry would like to build a strong relationship and also secure intervention from donor agencies that will help the state boost its power sector,” he emphasised.
Reacting, the Focal Officer for Rural Electrification Agency, Adejoke Odumosu urged the Ministry to put mechanisms in place for smooth alignment with the Federal Rural Electrification Agency.
Also, speaking during a visit to the Nigeria Electrification Regulatory Commission (NERC), the Adeyemo sought for technical and legal input in the establishment of Osun State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
The Legal Commissioner for NERC, Dafe Akpeneye urged the Ministry to define and identify the state’s boundary and the demography of the state for electricity market sustainability.
“The Ministry is expected to have a road map in transitional frameworks in order to have a smooth transition from Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission,” Dafe noted.
