The deepening crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a dramatic turn in Osun State, as the party’s secretariat in Osogbo has been shut down indefinitely amid rising internal turmoil.
The closure, according to sources within the party, followed mounting tension triggered by recent comments made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, during an interview on Channels Television. Wike’s remarks on the 2022 Osun governorship election and the party’s internal structure have reportedly reignited old wounds within the PDP, both at the state and national levels.
Insiders told reporters that the decision to close the secretariat was taken as a precautionary measure to prevent a further escalation of internal disputes.
“The situation is tense,” said a senior PDP official who asked not to be named. “There’s a serious division within the party, and the national leadership is not helping matters. The minister’s comments have only widened the cracks.”
The development comes amid widespread unrest across several PDP state chapters, following the suspension of key national officers and growing uncertainty over the party’s direction ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Political observers say the Osun crisis underscores the PDP’s struggle to maintain unity, as factions loyal to different power blocs continue to clash over control and influence.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State PDP leadership had yet to issue an official statement on the closure or announce a possible date for the reopening of the party secretariat.
