A middle-aged man, identified as Baba Baji, has been arrested by the police in Osun State, over the death of a woman who reportedly died in his apartment at Fakunle area in Osogbo, capital of Osun State.
Baba Baji was apprehended after the said lover whose identity was yet to be ascertained as at press time, slumped and died inside his kitchen while cooking peppery stew.
The Hope Metro gathered that the suspect met the lady while she was searching for a house and decided to accommodate her temporarily pending when she would get her own apartment.
Our correspondent learnt that along the line, Baba Baji started dating the deceased who hailed from Makurdi, Benue State capital.
On the fateful day, the suspect was said to have left the house for work while the lady stayed back .
It was further gathered that while the deceased was alone in the house preparing the stew, she suddenly slumped and died in the kitchen.
A good Samaritan who saw smoke emanating from the house, was said to have forced the door open and saw her on the floor lying dead .
The matter was immediately reported to Aotoga police station by members of Landlords Association at Fakunle Area and the police visited the scene, afterwhich they evacuated the body and deposited it at the mortuary for possible autopsy .
Speaking with our correspondent, one of the landlords, Mr. Femi Akinwumi said the unfortunate incident happened on Wednesday evening and the police had since apprehended the man who harboured the lady in his house.
He said,’’ The relation of the lady who came had told the police that they were not interested in any case against the suspect.
” From our findings,, the lady was likely to be an asthmatic patient and might have inhaled the strong smell of the burnt peppery stew.’’
However, a competent police officer who confirmed the incident, said the police will investigate the matter.
