Residents of the Biket area in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, are expressing growing concern and distress over the presence of a decomposing corpse that has remained unattended for days.
The lifeless body of an unidentified man was discovered opposite Optima Hospital, near the Koju Foam area, sparking fear and unease among locals.
According to eyewitnesses, the body has been lying in the open without any visible response from the relevant authorities, despite repeated calls for urgent action.
The stench from the decomposing remains has become unbearable, raising serious health and environmental concerns for residents and business owners in the vicinity.
According to eyewitnesses, emergency responders from the O’Ambulance service were contacted and promptly arrived at the scene. However, after confirming that the individual was deceased, they reportedly declined to evacuate the body, citing that their operational mandate only covers assistance to the living.
As of the time of filing the report, the lifeless body remains at the location, causing growing anxiety among residents. Many fear that the situation could pose serious health risks and environmental hazards if not urgently addressed.
“We are scared and uncomfortable,” said a local trader. “The body has been there for days, and nothing has been done. It’s dangerous to our health, and it’s very disturbing to see something like this so close to our homes and shops.”
Community members are urging the Osun State government and relevant security and health agencies to take immediate steps to evacuate the body and carry out necessary investigations to determine the cause of death.
They stressed that the delay in addressing the situation reflects poorly on the responsiveness of local authorities.
As anxiety continues to mount, residents are appealing for swift intervention to restore public health safety and peace of mind in the area.
