Osun students to represent Nigeria at ‘World Debate Day’ in Malaysia

By Michael Ofulue, Osogbo

The Osun State contingent, who came second in the National Inter-School Debate Competition held recently across Nigeria, will represent the country at the final round of the competition in Malaysia.

The debate was organized as part of activities to mark Nigeria’s 25th Democracy Anniversary and the first year in office of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Participants were drawn from public secondary schools across the 36 states of the country, debating various topics related to national development at different stages.

‘Team Osun’ comprised public school students, including Abimbola Salawa from Methodist High School, Ilesa; Daniels Happy from Master A Secondary School, Ilesa; Adeogo Mercy from CAC Grammar School, Gbodofon, Osogbo; and Adewale Oluwaseun from Ila Grammar School, Ila.

Receiving the brilliant students in his office, the Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole, said the students not only made their families and Osun State proud but also Nigeria, as they are now set to hoist the flag of the country in far-away Malaysia.

Describing the students as good ambassadors of Osun, the Commissioner urged them to continue being good, diligent, and hardworking.

He also appreciated the principals and teachers of the students for their excellent work.
