Ahead of the forthcoming local government elections, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has sworn in Electoral Officers (EOs) and Assistant Electoral Officers (AEOs).

While performing the swearing-in, the Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Hashim Abioye, said the move was necessary to achieve the goals of the election.

The chairman reiterated the commitment of the Commission to delivering free, credible, and acceptable elections in February 2025.

He charged the officers to remain focused and dedicated to their duties at all times, stressing that they are now duty-bound to the Commission.

While explaining that they owe the entire state a duty to be faithful before, during, and after the elections, he urged the officers to bring any observations that need clarification to OSSIEC.

Speaking on local government autonomy, Abioye stated that, as of now, no other body has the constitutional competence to conduct local government elections other than the state electoral body.

According to him, “The Commission will properly follow due process, just as it has been doing. We will ensure we deliver credible leaders to govern at the grassroots level.

“We are determined to conduct an election that will go down in history books. I am assuring everyone that it will be an election that no one will be able to fault.”
