Osun teachers charged on mother-tongue

Teachers have been enjoined to use mother tongue to impart right knowledge as the language used can reduce cases of violence and bad behaviour in the society.
Osun State Commissioner for Education, Mr Oladoyin Bamisayemi gave the advice in Ikirun during an interactive meeting with teachers in the zone on the need to improve education in the state.
Bamisayemi, while emphasizing the importance of mother tongue to students assured teachers in the state that the era of half salary is gone.
The commissioner who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Jamiu Olawumi said that Osun teachers should be rest assured that all arrears will be paid adding that salaries with promotion will also be paid as and when due.
He commended the teachers for the good job they have been doing and also admonished them to be proud of themselves as mentors of the most successful people in the society.
He also said training and retraining of teachers will be done and it will be compulsory for teachers to be certificated before they can teach.
In his welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Festus Olajide who was represented by Director, Schools, Mr. Obi Olagoke prayed that the efforts of the teachers will not be vain.
Olajide while commending the teachers said the state is one of the three states in Nigeria that has zero tolerance to examination malpractice.
He said the purpose of the meeting is to examine the state of education in Osun and urged them to express themselves freely in order to chart the way forward.
