Osun varsity gets GASD institute

In a bid to address issues of sustainable development in a unique and effective way, the Osun State University has established a Global Affairs and Sustainable Development Institute (GASDI).
The institute is aimed at fast-tracking the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals.
A statement issued by the Acting Director, Global Affairs and Sustainable Development Institute, Osun state University, Prof Victor Adetimirin stated that the aim of the institute is to become a centre of excellence in post-graduate teaching and research.
Adetimirin said that the institution has concluded plans to offer Master and PhD degrees in Sustainable Development Practice, Indigenous Knowledge and Heritage Studies, Leadership and Governance, Peace and Conflict Studies, Climate and Society, and Migration Studies among other courses.
“Situated at the core of Yoruba Culture and tradition, the institute is also poised to pursue research and carry out other initiatives on Yoruba and the world.
“We will also run short duration certificate courses in these fields as well as conduct workshops to improve the efficiency of governmental and non-governmental organizations.
He disclosed that the inaugural international symposium, that will bring together world-renowned scholars and other stakeholders, will take place on 25 and 26 June, 2019 at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium of Osun State University, Osogbo.
“The keynote address at the symposium will be delivered by Prof Obijiofor Aginam, Deputy Director, and Head of Governance for Global Health, United Nation University-International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“The symposium is expected to deepen the discourse and practice of sustainable development,” Adetimirin added.
